ACHT BRÜCKEN 2015 | "EIGHT BRIDGES" 2015 takes "Music. Politics?" as its theme, asking whether and to what extent new music has a political stance or is even itself a political act. Works by composers such as Louis Andriessen offer ample material for this lively controversy.

Louis Andriessen: M is for Man, Music, Mozart (1991), Tapdance (2013), La Passione (2002)

RECORDED LIVE AT THE MANSION AT STRATHMORE ON APRIL 8, 2014
New York Public Radio/WQXR; produced by Alex Ambrose for Q2
Tuesday, July 12 at 12 pm ET, Phil Kline presents an eclectic collection of music at the "Andriessen 75" festival as performed by vocalist Cristina Zavalloni, violinist Monica Germino and pianist Andrea Rebaudengo. With a wide range of Andriessen's works along with Stravinsky, Cage and influences from Paul McCartney and John Lennon, the concert took place at The Mansion at Strathmore in Washington, D.C. on April 8.
As a part of the celebration of the Dutch composer's life and work, the musicians played seven pieces by Louis Andriessen: Letter from Cathy, Base, Beatles Songs (satirical arrangements of four Beatles Songs), Xenia, Fanfara Inclinata, Le Voile du Bonheur, and Passeggiata in tram in America e ritorno, many of them composed in the 21st century. Igor Stravinsky's The Owl and the Pussycat, a twelve-tone piece based setting Edward Lear's poem of the same name, was also performed, as well as John Cage's Six Melodies for violin and piano.
Part of Classical 105.9 WQXR, Q2 Music is a New York-based online station devoted to the music of living composers; a home for immersive festivals, live webcasts and on-demand concerts from today’s leading new-music performers and venues, and is programmed by Q2 Music's Producer, Alex Ambrose.
